Good morning, Neighbors!
I hope this finds You happy and well!
Some early-year offerings:
After traveling last week, i am back to teaching my regular Tuesday evening class, Finding the Most Open Question, at Tanzfabrik Berlin (Wedding version, Uferstudio 3) Tuesdays at 8pm. Depending on the evening, we cover breath, bones, kidneys, Truth, Beauty, God*dess, the Universe, that sort of thing. Stop on by!
Recently, i’ve been working a bit more “behind the scenes” than usual, out of the public eye: Just came back from Frankfurt, where i taught another seminar in the M.A. of Contemporary Dance Education at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. That’s becoming a more regular thing for me, and it’s wonderful to connect to and exchange with others who are in a process around transmission and facilitation.
Several weeks ago, i was delighted to be in Munich to work as an outside eye with Lucy Wilke and Paweł Duduś on their new production Scores that Shaped our Friendship. It’s a beautiful piece about love and vulnerability (rave review in the Süddeutsche Zeitung here) and premiered this past Thursday, but You can still catch the final Munich show tonight, Sunday, February 16 at 8pm at the Schwere Reiter.
Next week, i will head down to Franconia, where i will be teaching a workshop in the framework of artistic research for Barbara Bess’ new production BeComing. There will be an interactive sharing of the research phase at Tanzzentrale in Fürth on Sunday February 23 at 7pm.
Artist and parent extraordinaire Juli Reinartz and i will be facilitating a workshop/discussion that was postponed from December, on Little Disasters, or Parenting While Making Art, on Monday, March 2, 12-3pm at Uferstudios Berlin. Come join us, and make sure You register with Tanzbüro at firstname.lastname@example.org
On a somewhat different note, join me for the full weekend workshop BDSM & Choreography, run by Authentic Eros at The Village Berlin, March 7 & 8! This is a rare mixed gender workshop at the Village, and will explore the relationship between BDSM and choreographic practices. Register here!
Looking forward to running into You here and/or there, and stay tuned for some more workshops happening later this year in London, Helsinki, and Berlin, plus finally getting back on stage choreographically with a solo scheduled to show in the fall!
Please take a moment to check out this petition to save Uferstudios from turbo-capitalism. Berlin may not be able to completely prevent itself from becoming New York, but the city’s unique history has sparked a number of initiatives to slow things down longer than elsewhere:
