In this six-minute study, a collaboration with the dancer Claudia Greco, we played with the possibility of structuring movement phrases according to musical principles. We partly used chance procedures to determine various parameters, creating phrases for the upper and the lower body, then put them together in contrapuntal ways, playing with compositional structures such as inversion and retrograde. It is loosely a four-part fugue, with two “voices” in movement, and two in sound.
Fugue was first shown at the wonderful ada studio in Uferstudios Berlin in November 2013.
