Welcome to November, Dance Fans!
I hope this finds You cozy and well.
First off, thank You to all who participated in my most recent Performance Project at Tanzfabrik Berlin, Skin & Other Boundaries, in September/October! You’re all gorgeous, and I had a blast navigating the boundaries & Desires of this particular work with You.
And now, THE FUTURE! (click on the links for more info)
November 10 & 11, i will be giving a workshop at Mozarteum University Salzburg (in collaboration with Paris Lodron University Salzburg) for the Open Arts M.A. students and doctoral candidates. This will be followed on November 12 by a workshop for Mozarteum’s Orff Institute and a (public) lecture the same day at 17:00 at the University titled DESIRE – S*x, Spirit, and Art-Making as Active and Receptive Practices. If You’re in Salzburg (or environs), stop on by and say hi!
Then i will turn my attention to Frankfurt am Main (where i spent some intense teenage years as an undergraduate at some point in the far past), where i will be offering PLEASURE – a contemporary technique class – as morning training for professionals at Mousonturm November 24-28.
The weekend following, November 29 & 30, i am very happy to be making my return to my friend Hassan’s place in Cologne,libe8, for a workshop on The Power of Three. I’ve been really interested for a while now in Martin Buber’s ideas about the Third in a relationship, and this trio workshop will be a nice opportunity to examine this idea in an embodied and playful way. More info and registration here.
Last but most certainly not least, i’m always happy to return to my first love, the piano, in this case supporting two ballet teachers i admire and enjoy working with at Marameo Berlin. I will be accompanying classes with the magnificent Yuri Shimaoka on Nov 3, 5, 8 and Dec 15, 17, 20, and with the fabulous Nicolas Robillard from December 2 through 6. Bring your full balletic self and join us!
Also always ongoing: PhD Studies! Now that i’ve arrived at more or less the halfway point, with two years behind me and two more to go, i’ve started to structure my writing practice a bit more… productively, let’s say, and explicitly invited my supervisors to put some pressure on me! Feel free to drop me a line occasionally, something like, “have You worked on your PhD yet today?” and/or “are You taking enough breaks during your all-encompassing PhD process?”.
Deeper Winter preview – February 5-8, i will be facilitating a number of workshops (exact content tbd) at the Pandora Festival near Krefeld/Venlo (near the German/Dutch border), which was a lot of fun this year and features a lovely lineup of cuties, not to mention a really beautiful location. I hear it’s selling out fast, so grab your tickets while You can!
Hope to see You soon, at one of the events or elsewhere, and hear all about YOUR survival as an artist and/or human being, too – and if i owe You a message, it could be because my phone died a few weeks ago, and i lost a bunch of threads and numbers… please do reach out.
Sending lots of love,
xxx,
David B.
