Tanznacht And Other Fall Items

5 Sep, 2023

Shakira at the Superbowl halftime show, or David Bloom teaching a Public Moves class for 106 participants at the ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival this past summer? You decide!
Dear Dance Fans, sorting out your autumn wardrobes,

I hope You had a relaxing and/or exciting summer! Vienna was a multidimensional experience as always. Too enormous to be a dance festival, too sweet to be one of the signs of the coming of the Apocalypse, ImPulsTanz is hard to pin down. I, for one, was happy to make my glorious return to the festival with two workshops and a Public Moves class after some years of absence – lots of love and gratitude to my collaborator and inspiration, Nicole Berndt-Caccivio, for co-teaching one of them.

As i head into PhD Land for the next few years – working on my project “The Desire to Become One – S*x, Spirit, & Choreography as Active & Receptive Practices” at Kunstuni Linz and Zurich Hochschule der Künste, i am not letting academia keep me from my important work of being out there, with the people! So here are a few autumnal offerings to whet your palate:

First off, coming out of the summer with a BANG! this week, is the dance event of the year, 25 Years of Tanznacht, which sees 80 Berlin dance artists (4 at a time), including myself, performing over the course of 25 hours, from 7:00pm Friday evening until 8:00pm Saturday. I have the best time slot – but You will need to check the website of Tanznacht to get the exact program from 5:00pm on Friday. Or just come for the whole 25 hours and go home in an expanded state of mind & body!

The week after, i am very happy to be giving an impulse, The Discipline Game, at the mov*ed Impulstage – “Preparing For What?”, a 5-day peer exchange for movement and dance educators. The event is happening September 10-14 at the gorgeous LAKE Studios in Berlin-Friedrichshagen, and features a very cute lineup of impulse givers. Participation is FREE and it is possible to come for all five days, or only one, but with the intention of staying for the full day (10:00am to ca. 3:30pm). My impulse will be happening on the Thursday (Sep 14). Hope to see You there!

Lastly, in November, i will be (literally) diving back into choreographer and bon vivant Michael Turinsky’s extra-sensory production SOILED, which we will be performing at Festival NEXT in Kortrijk, Belgium. Can’t wait to get oily again! Show dates are November 11 & 12. (photo by Loizenbauer)

Let me know what YOU are up to, too! Response time is at a premium but i promise to get back to You eventually. Sending lots of love out there.

xxxxx,

David B.
