Greetings from Nuremberg, Dance Fans,

where i will be performing TONIGHT, in the pumpkin-seed-oil-drenched production SOILED by the magnificent Michael Turinsky! If You’re in Nuremberg, come to the EveryBody Festival at Tafelhalle TONIGHT at 8pm! If You’re in Berlin, there’s a sprinter train that will get You here in three and a half hours, so there’s time! Sorry for the short notice.

It’s a busy time of year, so i will quickly get to other stuff coming up:

May 12: MOTHER’S DAY. If You are privileged enough to have a mother who is alive and You are in a good relationship with, honor her! If You have a complicated relationship with motherhood, honor that! If You know the holiday was created by the florist industry and You reject capitalism, honor yourself! In any case, honor and joy and love to us all, and to all our origins! (Also You can view this as a friendly reminder to call your mother, if You wish and it’s appropriate to your life situation)

May 28 to June 2: Touch & Play Festival Cologne! Come and join me for my intensive on My Lovers, Human & More-Than-Human

June 16, 11am-12:30pm: Teaching a workshop on Scribbles, Ages 6 and up, together with the fabulous Daniella Strasfogel, at the Soundance Festival for contemporary dance & music, Dock11 Berlin

July 22-27: Teaching an intensive on Desires & Boundaries at the young and dynamic JamJam Festival for improvisation in Velbert (somewhere around Essen & Wuppertal).

July 29-August 2: Teaching Scorpio Dances – BDSM & Choreography at the tremendous & humongous ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival, which is always a sensory overload and inter-dimensional journey. Very excited to be back in Vienna!

August 3 & 4: Teaming up again with my esteemed colleague and mentor Nicole Berndt-Caccivio to offer a weekend intensive on Facilitating, Teaching, Holding Space – Strategies of Transmission, also at ImPulsTanz.

Also at some point during my ImPulsTanz time, there will be a resurrection of my Public Moves class (open classes in public spaces) from last year, Moving from the Bones. Exact date to be determined, so check the ImPulsTanz page (or mine!) for details.

Also, apparently, i am also still working on my PhD in between all of this, and i am very, very happy and grateful indeed to report that i’ve been generously granted a fellowship by the Ernst-Ludwig-Ehrlich-Studienwerk (ELES) to continue this research in a far more sustainable way. This is a great source of relaxation for myself and those around me! Thank You!

The Politics Department:

To those who wrote in expressing support after my last newsletter (which can still be read here): thank You so much. I love You all.

To those who objected to the fact that i included a picture of my mother (picture included in the same post) at the Sunset Park (Brooklyn) Vigil next to another person who was holding a sign protesting the genocide in Gaza (the term “genocide” apparently being the objectionable word), the following: I love You too. And this is the way i feel about genocide – this will probably get me canceled by more people than the original email, but i personally, in conversation, tend not to use the word “genocide” to describe the heartbreaking and mind-numbing tragedy in Gaza, for a number of reasons, which i will be happy to get into with You face to face (not digitally). However, i also do not object to anyone using the word “genocide”, and in fact find that my own political beliefs tend to align more closely with those who do than with those who don’t. The fact that dialogue over a complex, complicated, nuanced, multifaceted situation that did not begin on October 7, 2023 (or in 1967, or in 1948, or in 1918, etc…) can be shut down over the use of one word or not is unacceptable to me, and i will continue to advocate for complexity and plurality of subjectivities (in itself not a popular stance these days). HOWEVER – if what You are doing is CLOSE enough to genocide that it can be PLAUSIBLY DESCRIBED as genocide,  if it opens up the possibility that people MAY accuse You of genocide, then You are simply TOO CLOSE to genocide! (and then i find that whether it then fits the legalistic definition of “genocide” or not becomes completely irrelevant.)

“Never again” means “never again” for ANYONE.

(see also an eloquent Passover speech by author Naomi Klein on the topic of Zionism here, and thank You Roberto, for sharing it with me. Hasta la victoria siempre!)

Sending love from Nuremberg, and see You IRL soon!
xxx,
David B.
